French Infantry Napoleonic Wars
Characteristics
The French armies, led by Napoleon, dominated Europe during the early 19th century.
The undefeated columns of infantry 'Les Blues' used a combination of large columns, ease of maneuver and firepower to raze the armies of Prussia, Austria, Spain and Russia, culminating in a life-or-death battle against the Allied troops of Wellington and Blucher at Waterloo in 1815.
Well directed and confident in victory, the average French soldier wiped out virtually any enemy who dared face him.
